The D90 digital camera is a professional grade digital SLR camera available from Nikon. The D90 is an excellent choice for the beginner and professional photographer alike. Considered the benchmark for any serious photographer the Nikon D90 is the newest and best DX format DSLR available.  Considering the price of less than $1200 dollars the D90 is hard to beat.

Ergonomics:

The Nikon D90 digital camera handles exceptionally well and control locations are intuitive. The rear multi-selector is greatly improved over previous versions and setting adjustments can be made with ease. The D90 is a little on the heavy side so take that into consideration when planning extended road trips. The rear LCD is well placed providing on screen menu access and a quick snapshop of photos taken.Nikon D90 Digital Camera

Speed:

The D90 is a fast digital camera as its boasts 4.5 FPS of continuous shooting, almost as fast as Nikons more expensive/professional quality cameras i.e. (D700).

Technical:

Nikon D90 Digital CameraThe Nikon D90 features a 12.9 megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor producing excellent quality photos with integrated image sensor cleaning (prevents blurred images). A 3 inch TFT-LCD allows for menu access and displays a preview of each shot. The Nikon D90 digital camera is also capable of recording movies up to 1280 x 720 at 24 fps with mono sound. Standard ISO on the D90 digital camera is 200-3200 and 100-6400 as expanded. The D90 offers still image sizes of: 4,288 x 2,848 (large), 3,216 x 2,136 (medium) and 2,144 x 1,424 (small) in the following formats: JPG and NEF. The D90 is equipped with HDMI and composite analog for video out. The Nikon D90 boasts face detection technology which isolates subjects’ in-frame and optimizes conditions to take the best pictures. Scene modes included on the D90 include: portrait, landscape, sports, close-up, GPS geo-tagging and night portrait for customizable shots. Power is provided by an EN-EL3e battery, which is rated for 850 shots with 50% flash.

Data Storage and Transferring Photos:

The Nikon D90 digital camera utilizes SDHC (secure digital high capacity) memory cards which boast capacities in excess of 4 GB. I would strongly suggest you purchase a quality card as this is the location of your stored photos. Additionally, a high quality card will have an improved transfer rate and will ensure the D90 performs at maximum capacity.

The D90 digital camera plugs directly into your computer via USB making image transfer a breeze.  I have noticed that on occasion I am unable to browse images via Explorer when the D90 is connected to my computer.  Generally I fix this by power-cycling the D90 digital camera and hit refresh.  It may be necessary to purchase an external SDHC card reader should you experience this problem.

Lens Compatibility:

The D90 digital camera is available as a base or as a base / lens combination package. The D90 combination package generally comes from the factory with a 18-105mm f/3.5 – f/5.6 DX Nikkor lens. The D90 digital camera works with all traditional AF, AF-I, AF-D and AF-S lenses.

Flash:

The D90 comes complete with a popup flash which gets the job done, however; you will need to purchase an additional flash for better shots. Standard flash modes include: front curtain sync, slow sync, rear-curtain sync, red-eye reduction and red-eye reduction with slow sync for ideal lighting in a variety of situations. The D90 digital camera is compatible with the following flashes:  i-TTL, SB-400, SB-600, SB-800, SB-900 and R1C1.

Shutter:

The D90 digital cameras shutter was tested by Nikon up to 100K cycles. The shutter range is 1/4,000 of a second to 30 seconds. An optional ML-13 remote release is available to wirelessly control the shutter.  Sync speed provides the fastest shutter speed with a flash which is 1/200 of a second.
